Visual Melvins: Live @ The High Noon Saloon

It was… you know, just another Saturday night at the High Noon Saloon. Another Saturday night with LA’s own Totimoshi and sonic legends The Melvins blowing the doors down. Not that usual indeed. Every beat felt like a gun shot; every sludge chord a tribute to pointed anger and recklessness. The pit seethed with that benevolent brutality we all know and love. Veins pumped pure lactic acid and then the first set was over. The second raged just as hard with Crover and Willis driving his cohorts down the rock road with true fury. Yeah, these guys still got it after nearly 30 years. Was there even any doubt? (scroll down for gallery controls).

Scout Nibblet Live @ The Frequency: Any Questions?

So I set up, the crowd fills in, the openers open (quite well, I might add). Scout steps up and right away with the first number, defines the entire show. Feel the reverb, the subtle passion of the verse, the noise-riot chorus as it hits those Nirvana bones deep. She’d obviously picked up a burnt piece of Kurdt on her way in. I felt very embarrassed as my shutter snapped a bit too loud during that first verse. Sorry Scout, didn’t mean to break the spell.

“So, any questions?,” she asked afterwards. Many were asked and answered that night. That sort of honesty leaves you reeling. I mistakenly walked around the capital building twice on my way home, stone sober.
